Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Vuex Broadcast

Use with my fork of Vuex

Broadcast and share Vuex modules mutations between mupltiple instances of the same Vue application (like brower tabs) to keep them in sync.

Install

npm install --save vuex-broadcast

Usage

  • add a broadcast key to the namespaced modules you want to broadcast the mutations
// myModule.js

{
  broadcast: true,
  namespaced: true,

  state: {},
  mutations: {},
  actions: {}
}
  • register the Vuex plugin
import VuexBroadcast from "vuex-broadcast"

new Vuex.Store({
  modules: {}
  plugins: [new VuexBroadcast()]
})

From now on, each mutatons of the modules with the broadcast key set to true will be boradcasted to other app instances and applied in each of their Vuex stores.

Options

You can pass an options argument to the contructor with the following properties:

  • moduleName [String] defaults to "vuexBroadcast": the vuex module name that will be registered, defaults to "vuexBroadcast"
  • enableLeaderElection [Boolean], defaults to false: enable leader election
  • mainChannelName [String] defaults to "vuexBroadcast": the broadcast channel name, mainly used to elect a leader between all the app instances
  • you can pass any option of the broadcast-channel library: https://github.com/pubkey/broadcast-channel/#set-options-when-creating-a-channel-optional

Leader Election

As stated in https://github.com/pubkey/broadcast-channel/#using-the-leaderelection You can also elect a leader between all of the instances of you app.

This plugin registers a vuex module, with its name set by the moduleName option. This module exposes a state named isLeader which is set to true if the current instance is elected as leader.

You can access it like any regular vuex module:

// in components via
this.$store.state[moduleName].isLeader
// or
mapState([moduleName], ['isLeader'])

// in your vuex store in:
// actions
myAction ({state, commit, rootState}, myActionArgument) {
  const isLeader = rootState[moduleName].isLeader
}

// getters
myGetter: (state, getters, rootState) => {
  const isLeader = rootState[moduleName].isLeader
}
