Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

vuex-module-listeners

v1.0.0

A Vuex plugin aimed at reducing coupling between Vuex Modules by implementing event driven architecture

Vuex Listeners

Overview

One of the primary pain points I have with Vuex is that modules become more tightly coupled as your application grows. This is especially true when your application has multiple API requirements. This plugin attempts to solve that problem by utilizing vuex's mutation and action subscriber system into the options API of each vuex module you are interacting with.

Installation

npm i vuex-module-listeners

Usage

Please see Vuex Plugin documentation for further information on what plugin mutations and action events plugins can listen to Vuex Plugin Events. Regardless of module type (namespaced or global), every action or mutation triggered in a module fires of an event that plugins can listen to; including namespaced modules. You can use this system so that other modules who depend behavior of a module can listen in to the module. This leads to looser coupling when utilized properly.

Requirements

  1. the name of a listener must match that of the mutation or event being triggered.
  2. Since actions typically result in a mutation, it's best practice to avoid using actions if you can.
  3. this plugin only invokes one listener and using name matching of the mutation and action can very quickly handle the listener. No need for a switch statement!

Example Vuex Module

export default {
  mutations: {
    SET_SUBSCRIPTION() {
      ...
    }
  },
  actions: {
    GET_SUBSCRIPTIONS() {
      ...
    }
  }
  listeners: {
    mutations: {
      SET_SUBSCRIPTION(store, payload, state, router) {
        return "mutation";
      },
    },
    actions: {
      before: {
        GET_SUBSCRIPTIONS(store, payload, state, router) {
          return "action.before";
        },
      },
      after: {
        GET_SUBSCRIPTIONS(store, payload, state, router) {
          return "action.after";
        },
      },
    },
  },
};

About namespaced modules

To listen to a namespaced module mutation or action you can name them listen to them like so:

{
  listeners: {
    mutations: {
      "namespaced/module": () => {}
    },
    actions: {
      before: {
       "namespaced/module": () => {}
      },
      after: {
       "namespaced/module": () => {}
      }
    }
  }
}

Testing

npm run test

There is also a default vscode launch config installed to run the visual studio code debugger when testing.
