Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

web-font-codecs-core

Shared types, errors and format checks for woff1-codec and woff2-codec.

This package has no encoder or decoder. To convert fonts, install web-font-codecs, which re-exports everything most apps need from here. Use this package directly to check a font's format without loading any WASM.

npm install web-font-codecs-core

Check a font

import { readFile } from 'node:fs/promises';
import { detectFormat, validateFont } from 'web-font-codecs-core';

const bytes = await readFile('font.ttf');
const format = detectFormat(bytes); // 'sfnt', 'woff1' or 'woff2'
validateFont(bytes, format, 512 * 1024 * 1024);

Both functions throw FontCodecError on failure. Neither needs WASM, so both run instantly in Node or the browser.

  • detectFormat(data) reads the file signature. It rejects TTC/OTC collections and unknown signatures.
  • validateFont(data, expected, maximumBytes) checks the size, the format, and the headers. For TTF/OTF it also checks that the table directory is sorted, unique, in bounds and not overlapping. For WOFF and WOFF2 it checks the header only.

These are structural checks that protect the codecs. They do not validate a font.

Exports

| Export | What it is | | --- | --- | | FontFormat | 'sfnt' \| 'woff1' \| 'woff2' | | FontCodecError | Error with code and, for native failures, nativeStatus | | CodecErrorCode | INVALID_INPUT, UNSUPPORTED_FORMAT, LIMIT_EXCEEDED, INVALID_OPTION, CODEC_FAILURE, WASM_INIT, DISPOSED | | CodecInitOptions | CodecLimits plus wasm?: WasmSource | | CodecLimits | maxInputBytes? and maxOutputBytes?: 1 byte to 512 MiB, default 512 MiB | | WasmSource | URL string, URL, Response, BufferSource, WebAssembly.Module, ReadableStream<Uint8Array>, or a promise of any of these | | CodecResult | data: Uint8Array (an independent copy) and warnings: string[] (repair names) | | CodecLifecycle | [Symbol.dispose](): void, dispose(): void | | integerOption(value, name, min, max) | Returns value, or throws INVALID_OPTION if it is not an integer in range | | createRuntime(source, limits?), CodecRuntime | The WASM loader the two codec packages use. It only runs their WASM builds. |
