Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

winged-rust

Fast, type-safe HTML generation in WebAssembly — a port of Winged-Swift.

This is the WebAssembly build. The Rust crate is on crates.io, documented at docs.rs.

npm install winged-rust
import { element, WDocument } from "winged-rust";

const page = new WDocument("pt-BR")
  .addHead(element("title").text("RideKeeper"))
  .addBody(element("h1").text("Track every service"))
  .addBody(element("p").addClass("lead").text("Fuel, tyres & chain."));

console.log(page.render());

Why

Escaping you cannot forget. text() escapes; rawText() does not, and is named so an audit can grep for it.

element("p").text("<script>alert(1)</script>").render();
// '<p>&lt;script&gt;alert(1)&lt;/script&gt;</p>'

The same renderer as the Rust crate. These bindings wrap the real node tree rather than concatenating pre-rendered strings, so renderPretty() works and the output is byte-identical to the Rust library's. That is verified on every build: the package's smoke test renders a page and diffs it against the same golden fixture the Rust tests use.

API

| | | | --- | --- | | element(tag) | a new element; new WElement(tag) also works | | .setId(id) .addClass(c) .setStyle(s) | class, id and style | | .attr(k, v) .boolAttr(k) | attributes; boolAttr renders a bare key | | .dataAttr(k, v) .ariaAttr(k, v) | data-* and aria-* | | .text(s) .rawText(s) | escaped and unescaped content | | .child(el) .comment(s) | children | | .render() .renderPretty() | markup | | new WDocument(lang) | a page; lang may be undefined | | .addHead(el) .addBody(el) | content | | .render() .renderCompact() .renderWithIndent(s) | markup; render() is pretty | | new WSeo(title, description) | Open Graph and Twitter Cards | | escapeText(s) version() | helpers |

Entry points

| import | build | | --- | --- | | winged-rust | CommonJS in Node, ESM in a bundler, ESM in a browser | | winged-rust/web | the --target web build, for a plain <script type="module"> |

TypeScript

Typings ship with the package. They reference Symbol.dispose and the WebAssembly namespace, so your tsconfig.json needs both in lib:

{
  "compilerOptions": {
    "target": "ES2022",
    "lib": ["ES2022", "ESNext.Disposable", "DOM"]
  }
}

In Node without DOM, @types/node supplies the WebAssembly namespace instead.
