Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

WireSaber

Newswire for AI agents — A Claude-native MCP tool providing structured news/event feed

WireSaber is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that exposes a structured news API optimized for AI agents, not humans. It returns machine-readable news events with entities, topics, and relevance scores — perfect for Claude code agents that need fresh, reliable external signals.

🎯 Use Case

When building Claude code agents, you often need external signals:

  • "What's new in AI funding this week?"
  • "Any major acquisitions in the startup space?"
  • "Latest developments in LLM research"

WireSaber provides structured JSON responses with entities already extracted, topics tagged, and relevance scores computed — no web scraping or parsing required.

📦 Installation

Option 1: Clone & Build (Recommended)

# Clone the repository
git clone https://github.com/luke-song/wiresaber.git
cd wiresaber

# Install dependencies
pnpm install

# Build the project
pnpm build

Option 2: NPM Install

npm install -g wiresaber

Then update your .mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "agentwire": {
      "command": "agentwire",
      "env": {
        "AGENTWIRE_USE_REAL_NEWS": "true"
      }
    }
  }
}

Option 3: Remote (no install)

WireSaber also runs as a hosted MCP server over Streamable HTTP — point a client directly at it, no clone/build required:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "wiresaber": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://wiresaber.vercel.app/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}

The remote endpoint is stateless (each request gets a fresh session) and always uses live RSS data.

Register with Claude Code

Add to your project's .mcp.json (recommended for per-project setup):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "agentwire": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["/absolute/path/to/wiresaber/dist/index.js"],
      "env": {
        "AGENTWIRE_USE_REAL_NEWS": "true"
      }
    }
  }
}

Or add to ~/.claude/settings.json for global access:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "agentwire": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["/absolute/path/to/wiresaber/dist/index.js"],
      "env": {
        "AGENTWIRE_USE_REAL_NEWS": "true"
      }
    }
  }
}

Important: Replace /absolute/path/to/wiresaber with your actual path (run pwd in the wiresaber directory to see it).

Note: Set AGENTWIRE_USE_REAL_NEWS to "true" for live RSS feeds, or omit for mock data.

      "env": { "AGENTWIRE_USE_REAL_NEWS": "true" }
