Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

wp-alchemist

v0.2.0

Published

Create WordPress plugins with Composer, namespace prefixing, REST routes, migrations, Vite, Vue and Tailwind, then generate modules, migrations, controllers and repositories inside them.

Readme

wp-alchemist

Create WordPress plugins that start out structured, secure and on modern tooling, then keep adding code in the same shape.

npm create wp-alchemist@latest my-plugin

You get:

  • Composer with dependencies namespace-prefixed by Strauss, so two plugins using different framework versions never conflict
  • Feature modules under src/Modules/<Feature>/
  • REST routes that require a permission, plus schema-driven settings that reject unknown keys
  • Migrations that run on activation and updates, and roll back on uninstall
  • Vite + Vue + Tailwind admin pages with hot reload inside wp-admin
  • Linting: PSR-12 plus WordPress security, SQL and i18n sniffs
  • composer zip for a runtime-only release

Requirements: Node 20.12+, PHP 8.1+, Composer 2. pnpm, yarn and bun work too (pnpm create wp-alchemist, …).

Generators

Inside a generated plugin (wp-alchemist is already a dev dependency):

npx wp-alchemist make:module "Link Reports" --admin --table # module, controller, Vue page, migration, repository
npx wp-alchemist make:migration add_status_to_link_reports
npx wp-alchemist make:controller LinkReports/Export
npx wp-alchemist make:repository LinkReports/Snapshot --table link_snapshots

Options

npm create wp-alchemist@latest [directory] -- [options]

--name <name> Plugin name, e.g. "Acme Links"
--slug <slug> Folder, main file and text domain
  --namespace <ns> PHP namespace
  --description <text> Plugin description
  --author <name> Plugin author
--package-manager <pm> npm, pnpm, yarn or bun
  --no-install Only write the files
-y, --yes Accept defaults without prompting

Troubleshooting

  • "Missing requirements": install the listed tools, or use --no-install and install later.
  • composer install fails behind a proxy or firewall: the plugin is already written; fix the network issue and run composer install in the plugin folder.
  • "Do not run Composer as root" (Docker, CI): set COMPOSER_ALLOW_SUPERUSER=1.
