Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

zustand-stateful-getter

Leave zustand object getter alive.

Installation

npm install zustand-stateful-getter

zustand@^4.3.7 is peer dependency.

Usage

Provides a near-complete transparent API.

import { createStore } from 'zustand/vanilla'
import { statefulGetter } from 'zustand-stateful-getter'

const nameStore = createStore(
  statefulGetter(
    (set) => ({
      firstName: 'John',
      lastName: 'Doe',
      get fullName() {
        return `${this.firstName} ${this.lastName}`
      },
      setFirstName: (firstName) => set({ firstName }),
      setLastName: (lastName) => set({ lastName }),
    })
  )
)

pizzaStore.getState().fullName // 'John Doe'
pizzaStore.getState().setFirstName('Jane')
pizzaStore.getState().fullName // 'Jane Doe'

Why?

See https://github.com/pmndrs/zustand/issues/132

import { createStore } from 'zustand/vanilla'

const nameStore = createStore(
  (set) => ({
    firstName: 'John',
    lastName: 'Doe',
    get fullName() {
      return `${this.firstName} ${this.lastName}`
    },
    setFirstName: (firstName) => set({ firstName }),
    setLastName: (lastName) => set({ lastName }),
  })
)

pizzaStore.getState().fullName // 'John Doe'
pizzaStore.getState().setFirstName('Jane')
pizzaStore.getState().fullName // 'John Doe', not 'Jane Doe'

The fullName getter is not updated after setFirstName is called. This is because the getter is not a part of the state, and the state is not updated. zustand-statuful-getter solves this problem by Proxy trap.

With subscribe API and the subscriptionsWithSelector middleware could be a solution, but the desire to write store layouts declaratively led to the creation of this middleware.

Disclaimer

It is recommended that the getter body be written without conditionals. See https://github.com/sungchuni/detective-getter-deps#disclaimer

It relies heavily on the Proxy class, so you couldn't use it with versions of the JavaScript engine that don't have a Proxy implementation. Always consult the "Can I use Proxy?".
